
An assessment of the mobile health vans run by the Jharkhand Government under different schemes in 12 districts of the state in two regions North Chotanagpur (Bokaro, Chatra, Dhanbad, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Koderma) and Santhal Pargana (Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, Sahibganj)

Currently the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW) under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in partnerships with the private sector is operating 103 MMUs to reach people in 24 remote and difficult to reach districts in Jharkhand. The DoHFW commissioned an assessment to review and assess the functionality of MMUs, quality of healthcare provided, issues and challenges and overall satisfaction of the clients accessing MMUs.
The assessment also intended to identify are
as which require discussion and consideration to strengthen the operations of the MMUs. The scope of the study was to cover all the 12 districts of Jharkhand covering two MMUs per district.
The assessment has captured information on the following areas:
- Management,
- Operational,
- Demand Generation, and
- Client Satisfaction
The in-depth interviews of the chief medical officers, DPMs and MOICs were conducted in their offices with prior appointment. The interviews of other MMU staff were done at the MMU site. The exit interviews of beneficiaries including representation from BPL and Non-BPL households covering both male and female respondents were undertaken at the MMU site. The focused group discussions were conducted in the villages where the MMU had visited. The data collected was then analyzed using content analysis method for qualitative data and the SPSS software for quantitative data.
