Fulfilling the MDG promise

Every year around 500,000 women die while trying to give life to a new generation. In other words every single minute a woman dies during pregnancy and childbirth.

 

The Millennium Campaign informs, inspires and encourages people’s involvement and action for the realisation of the Millennium Development Goals. An initiative of the United Nations, the Campaign supports citizens’ efforts to hold their government to account for the Millennium promise.

 

The MDGs to be achieved between 1990 and 2015, include:

 

Halving extreme poverty and hunger

Achieving universal primary education

Promoting gender equality

Reducing under-five mortality by two-thirds

Reducing maternal mortality by three-quarters

Reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB

Ensuring environmental sustainability

Developing a global partnership for development, with targets for aid, trade and debt relief:
